Chapter 9

When none know any longer how to live in this world,
the people shall clamor — “Let me read the Fude (the brush-writing)” —
each seeking out this word from another.
Be not caught in haste when that hour comes;
prepare yourselves now.

The land of Japan shall be as though broken.
A time shall come when all declare,
“There is no Kami and no Buddha” —
a world so fallen.

Let not the Kami’s favor fall from you in that hour.
Keep firmly within the belly
what the Kami speaks.
