Kami-tsu-Maki (The Upper Scroll)

Chapter 5

Fuji is the mountain of the Kami.
All sacred mountains are called Fuji — 二二.

Miharashidai — the lookout, the body stretched wide (mi wo harasu).
Let the Kami fill every corner within.

Seek out the ōniwa no Fuji, the Fuji of the great world;
there shall come forth the rice of the Kami,
the breath that fills the body.
Hold it dear.

To open Fuji is to fill the heart with the Kami.

Himuka — the Facing-of-Kami — is the welcoming of the Kami;
Himuka is also the messenger.
One who has welcomed the Kami becomes the Kami’s servant,
walking in the Kami’s work.
Since Himuka is the Kami’s messenger,
unveil swiftly the Ku-no-Michi (the Way of Suffering) —
transmit this swiftly.

The task of Himuka is to heal the sickness of the people
and to turn them toward the Kami.
Keep this truth well within you
and transmit it without error.
