Chapter 13

Three at the root, and below them seven,
and below these, seven sevens — Forty-Nine:
the Fifty-Nine Mitama — divine essences — in all.
When these stand together, the Shikumi shall be fulfilled.

These Fifty-Nine Mitama are watched over by the Kami.
Upon them the Moto-Kami of the world shall take hold,
and great deeds shall be wrought through their hands.
Therefore in all things follow what the Kami speaks,
and polish your Mitama.
This is the number of the Moto-Kami of the world.
When these Mitama join their powers,
they shall be the foundation of the good age.

These Mitama are all in lowly estate,
and though they come to you, you may not know them.
Take heed: however lowly any may appear,
show kindness to any that seek you out, and send them on their way.

For all things, the appointed season is now come.
